Well-washing = like greenwashing, but for workplace wellness.
I first read the term thanks to Welcome to the Jungle.
At first, I rolled my eyes.
Another -washing term?
Like greenwashing (pretending to be eco-friendly), pinkwashing (claiming diversity with no follow-through), or momwashing (marketing work-life balance without real flexibility)...
But the concept stuck.
What if, instead of promoting:
“Flexible work” (but really 24/7 availability)
“Weekly happy hours” (not ideal for parents)
“Lunch break yoga” (on already-short breaks)
…you shared:
→ How your values show up in real actions
→ What feedback loops you’ve built
→ Real KPIs for equity and well-being
→ Support you provide to managers
→ What your talents say about you when no one’s watching
Consistency builds trust.
And trust attracts talent.
